How Viagra Stimulates and Enhances Erections

Erectile dysfunction is a serious ailment. While it seems harmless and easy to cure, the truth is, it took several years before pharmaceutical companies were able to create a drug that would be flexible in terms of usage. Before, medications that alleviate erectile dysfunction are tacky and hardly functional; there are even medications that are not safe but were widely used and promoted because of lack of choices. When Pfizer released Viagra in 1998, men suddenly had a choice. They do no longer need to suffer through the lack of functionality of some of the earlier erectile dysfunction cures.

But how does Viagra stimulate penile erection. It all happens and depends on the penis' blood circulation. Remember that erection happens when blood flows and remains in the penis. This happens when a man is sexually stimulated. However, there are situations when the sustaining of the blood in the penis is not possible due to various reasons. Erectile dysfunction happens when the specific phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibits the substance in the penis that enables smooth blood flow in the penis' arterial wall. The substance that enables smooth blood flow in the penis is call guanosine monophosphate. Viagra's component is similar to the guanosine monophosphate, negating the effects of the phosphodiesterase type 5. Because of this, even if the body cannot help the penis sustain the stable blood flow, erection is possible due to Viagra.

Viagra is very effective because, unlike the other medication that came before it, specializes and remedies the main cause of erectile dysfunction. Ironically, Viagra was developed as a drug for high blood pressure, although the drug was seen as a better drug for erectile dysfunction instead. Perhaps this is also the reason why Viagra helps remedy other ailments such as pulmonary hypertension, altitude sickness, Becker muscular dystrophy, and Raynaud's phenomenon. Unfortunately, Viagra cannot alleviate female sexual dysfunction, although, because of the attention given to the drug, several researches are no being done to help cure this ailment plaguing females as well.

With Viagra, penile erection is possible. There are safe ways to enhance the erection of penis, such as the use of food supplements and constant intake of nutrients that promote good sexual health. There are enzymes and amino acids that can help in the increase of the production of sperm and in the efficiency of the male sex organ. There are also safe herbal medicines that offer the same effects as well as other benefits such as increase in the sensitivity of the penis for heightened sensation during sexual intercourse. However, these supplements are not enough to make erectile dysfunction possible. One still needs to Viagra to make his penis erect, especially if the reason for the impotence is serious -- such as diabetes or disorders in the brain. At best, these supplements compliment the effects of Viagra but they cannot replace Viagra. This is why men with erectile dysfunction should consider taking Viagra. As long as one follows the instructions and directions, it is safe to take despite the various and often exaggerated reports of side effects of Viagra.
